Adventure game

From IFWiki

A term used in the late 1979s and 1980s to indicate any parser-based text game regardless of its genre. Derived from Crowther and Wood's "Adventure," the term implies exploring, solving puzzles, earning points and winning. As text games began to expand their focus to include more story and character interaction, the term "adventure" lost meaning, and "interactive fiction" became more prevalent.
