- The eighth PDF issue of SPAC 2.0, the Spanish IF newsletter, has been published.
- CASA, the Classic Adventures Solution Archive, will soon be replaced by a new website about 8-bit text adventures, with not only solutions and maps but also more information about the games, ratings, reviews, etc. Suggestions about this future website are welcome at this forum thread.

What's Hot
- Casual Gameplay Design Competition #7 for one-room Z-code "escape" games. Cash prizes! 30 games! Vote by ...February 23-ish? Give or take a day? Also, register to be a judge. Organizer: Jay is Games.
- Post-Comp-Comp 2009. A new juried competition for IF Comp 2009 authors, wherein post-comp versions of their games are judged on how well their games have improved. Voting deadline: February 28, 2010. Organizer: Sarah Morayati.
- The Even Competition (for ADRIFT games). Voting deadline: January 10, 2010 (or once the poll reaches 10 votes, whichever comes last). Organizer: Abbi Park.
- French Minicomp 2009. 3 games. Voting deadline: February 1, 2010. Organizer: Eric Forgeot.

- InsideADRIFT Awards 2009. Game of the Year: Ghost Town. Organizer: Duncan Bowsman.
- AIF Christmas Micro-comp 2009. With only two games entered, voting was canceled.
- GameplayComp for games with a non-traditional form of gameplay while still remaining IF. Submissions deadline was September 15, 2009. Winner (only entry): Fantastic Finale IV (Derek Sutcliffe; Z-code). Organizer: David Fisher.
- ECTOCOMP 2009 (for ADRIFT games). Three games. Winner: The Dangers of Driving at Night (Lumin). Organizer: Duncan Bowsman.
- IF Comp 2009. 24 games were entered. The top three games were Rover's Day Out, Broken Legs, and Snowquest. Congratulations to all the winners! Organizer: Stephen Granade.
- Saugus.net Halloween Ghost Story Contest. Winners (tie): The Lighthouse (Marius Müller; Z-code) and Awakening (Pete Gardner; Z-Code).
- The Twin Competition. For ADRIFT games. Two games. Winner: Crashland (!Rocky; ADRIFT 4). Organizer: Cowboy.
- RetroComp 2009. Spanish IF minicomp dedicated to remakes, translations, sequels, prequels, etc. of older text adventures. Five games. Winner: Ke Rulen los Petas (Grendel and Eliuk Blau; Glulx). Organizer: Jenesis.
- IntroComp 2009. Three games were entered. The winner, by a very close margin, is Obituary (writer: Drew Mochak, programmer: Johnny Rivera; Z-code 5). Organizer: Jacqueline A. Lott.
- GunchoComp for multiplayer IF realms written in Inform 7 for Guncho. Realms would be judged for Best Use of Multiplayer and Best Replay Value. GunchoComp closed on August 8th with no submissions. Organizer: Jesse McGrew.
- SenseComp for games with a PC whose primary sense is not sight. Submissions deadline was August 1, 2009. There were no entries. Organizer: David Fisher.
- BreadComp. A minicomp about bread. Submission deadline was August 1, 2009. There has been no announcement, but there probably were no entries. Organizer: James Wilson.
- Summer Ting (for non-registered users of ADRIFT). Submissions deadline was July 31, 2009, 23:59 GMT. There has been no announcement, but there probably were no entries. Organizer: Cowboy.
- NPCComp for games with convincing NPCs. No entries were submitted. Organizer: David Fisher.
- 2009 AIF Mini-comp. Winner: In Darkness (GoblinBoy; TADS 2). Organizer: Purple Dragon.
- ADRIFT IntroComp 2009. Competition for ADRIFT games which are just introductions. 11 games. Winner: Apokalupsis (James Webb as "revgiblet"). Organizer: Ken Franklin.

Authors should be working on their entries for:
- Assemblee Competition. Competition in two parts. The first part was for art and music. The second part is for games of all kinds, including interactive fiction, which must use only art and music created for the first part. Submission deadline for the second part: January 10, 2010, around midnight.
- Spring Thing 2010. Intent deadline is March 1, 2010. Submit by March 31, 2010. Organizer: Greg Boettcher.
- Grand Prix 2010 for short German IF games. Intent deadline is March 1, 2010. Submit by March 31, 2010. Organizer: Maximilian Kalus.
- One Room Game Competition 2010. Submit by March 6, 2010, midnight (Italian time, GMT+1). Vote by April 10, 2010, midnight (Italian time, GMT+1). Organizer: Francesco Cordella.
- 2010 Spring Ting (for ADRIFT games by non-registered users of ADRIFT). Submit by April 1, 2010, 23:59. Organizer: Cowboy.
