The Erins is a yearly AIF competition, very similar to the XYZZY Awards, except for Adult IF games. It is also called The Adult Interactive Fiction Awards, or AIFAs; see The Erins history page.

As currently structured, eligibility for the Erins is for AIF games released in a twelve-month period from November 1st to October 31st. For example, AIF games written from November 2006 to October 2007 were eligible for Erins 2007.

Because so few AIF titles were released between November 2007 and October 2008, there will be no Erins 2008. It is anticipated that those games that would have been eligible for Erins 2008 will have to wait a year and be considered as contenders for Erins 2009.

During the course of this thread, "The Erins" won the poll (held on the AIF Archives) for the name of the then new AIF awards. The runner-up name, "The Adult Interactive Fiction Awards", was also adopted at the same time.
