How It Begins
Black smoke belches from her forecastle. The “Marie-Louise” won’t be going anywhere soon. With satisfaction you see your men rounding up the crew, manhandling any fool who tries to oppose them. Ah, they’ve found the captain. Judging by the cut on his bald head, it looks like he offered some resistance. That’s good. A captain shouldn’t give up his ship without a fight.
You’re just about to hop over to the burning ship, to supervise the transfer of the ‘extraordinary’ booty, when a cannonball whizzes past your bow, splashing into the sea. Dark, foaming water crashes over the railing. Your man in the crow’s nest points to starboard. He seems to have turned a bit pale. Following his hand you notice a large brig approaching: the “Croatoan”, her red banner waving proudly. Another shot whizzes past your ship.
You have no choice, you have to engage her. With part of your crew busy on the “Marie-Louise”, you won’t be able to manoeuvre as freely as you’d like. Your jaw tightens. But she’d make quite a prize.
“Helmsman, hard to port. Head for the ‘Croatoan’. Prepare all guns!”
