How It Begins

Difficult times ahead. The superpowers have stepped up their diplomatic and military aggressions.

You are in Kensington Gardens, enjoying the last day of your stay in the United Kingdom. You are carrying nothing, but you're wearing a timepiece. You also have a credit card and a fifty pence coin in your pocket.

Notable Features

Feelies

  • The Illustrated Story of The Atom Bomb. A mini comic book in the "Quest For Knowledge Series". Each of the seven symbols that appear on the sundial feelie also appear without explanation in various places in the comic.
  • A map of the Trinity site. Titled as "Project TR", most of the map looks like a bullseye, with ground zero in the center, at the approximate scale one inch equals one mile. Two inset closeups show the McDonald Ranch Site Plan and the McDonald Rand House Floor Plan.
  • An ornate sundial. Made of stiff paper with an golden outer side. The upper half bears the legend "TEMPUS EDAX RERUM", and seven points of the compass are marked with the following symbols from Greek and astrology, clockwise starting from the southwest: Omega, Mercury, Pluto, Neptune, Libra, Mars, Alpha. The underside of the sundial has a quote by Emily Dickinson.
  • Instructions on how to fold an origami crane.
