List of dead links

From IFWiki

In an attempt to reduce linkrot on our pages, we will attempt to list IF-related websites that have been taken offline or have moved to a new location. This list in alphabetical order by URL.

When adding a website to this list, please also indicate the website's last known status, and what suggested remedy IFWiki (and others) can or should take to update themselves regarding the lost site. See also the dead link template for how we mark dead links now.

A

  • www.adrift.org.uk/cgi/f/ikonboard.cgi (ADRIFT Forum)
This site was moved to forum.adrift.co. The old posts were copied into the new forum, but unfortunately, we can't do a mass search-and-replace for this; the forum and topic ID numbers weren't preserved. I'll create a new {{old link}} template to help markup which links on which pages need to re-found and updated. -- David Welbourn 05:52, 24 May 2011 (PDT)

B

  • bioc.rice.edu/~lpsmith/IF/
I assume this was a website for Lucian P. Smith. It no longer seems to exist. -- bg (talk) 22:47, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

G

  • www.gregboettcher.com (Greg Boettcher's site)
This appears to have been replaced with another site.

M

  • marshaltennerwinter.blogspot.com (Marshal Tenner Winter's blog called "Winter of Our Discontent")
Internet Archive has only taken two snapshots of the blog's main page; individual postings aren't available.
  • members.aol.com/jdyer41/ -- (Jason Dyer's former website)
Status: TBD. His C32 Contest reviews and all three Excerpt Hunt pages are missing. I've mudmailed Ghogg to find out if any of that content is still available. -- David Welbourn 07:03, 9 December 2011 (PST)

S

  • selfasfractal.blogspot.com (Katherine Morayati former blog)
While the blog itself appears to be live (though no longer updated), some individual links to pages on it no longer seem to work. The blog's main page has a post dated Oct 13, 2010, that says "My new site is live at http://www.sarahmorayati.com -- my reviews and essays can be found there as well, including 2010 IF Comp reviews. This site will no longer be updated, and I'll be closing it probably within the year to keep away the vultures and bots." http://www.sarahmorayati.com doesn't seem to have any archives more recent than 2011. -- bg (talk) 22:42, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
  • shadowvault.net (Shadow Vault)
Status: Original gone; re-hosted under new management as shadowvault.co.cc
David Whyld, the site's creator, confirmed in November 2010 that the original site is gone for good, although he still has a copy. Some content can still be recovered via the Wayback Machine at archive.org. A fellow ADRIFTer, BlueMaxima, offered to re-host the Shadow Vault at shadowvault.co.cc. Whyld agreed to the move. Shadow Vault content is now at shadowvault.co.cc, which redirects to ultranine.novahost.org/shadowvault/index.htm.
Suggested remedy: Only links to SV's main page should point to "shadowvault.co.cc". For most links inside SV, replace "http://www.shadowvault.net/" with "http://ultranine.novahost.org/shadowvault/".
  • www.stanford.edu/~mcmartin (Michael Martin former website)
Michael Martin's new site is at http://hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu/~mcmartin/ . There's been some reorganization (his IF reviews are in a new "reviews" subdirectory), but all the old content should still be available.
  • strangebreezes.com (Jessica Knoch's website called "Strange Breezes")
Site replaced by a Japanese site; unknown if Jessica has a new website somewhere else. Internet Archive blocks requests for this site because of robots.txt.

V

  • versificator.co.uk (Robin Douglas Johnson's former website)
    Status: Site moved to rdouglasjohnson.com
Both his games, Hamlet and Aunts and Butlers are available to play online. However, I can't seem to find any mention of the Versificator authoring system, nor any of his reviews of IF Comp 2006 games. I'll e-mail Robin and ask if those are still available on the new site or elsewhere or if that particular content is now gone. -- David Welbourn 14:19, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

W

  • webhome.idirect.com/~dswxyz (David Welbourn's former website)
More undead then dead, this early version of David Welbourn's site somehow persists despite being abandoned years ago. All the content there was moved to his new site at http://www.plover.net/~davidw/ ; please use the new site instead.
