Formatting

The formatting for individual years' awards is pretty random. For example, sometimes "Z-Code" is wiki-linked, sometimes it is not. 2005 is particularly random as far as linking goes. I don't especially care too much what standard format is used, but I'd like to see it applied consistently, and I don't want to just leap in and change everything to conform to a standard that is just what I personally think is a good idea. It seems to me that the linking of the 2005 page isn't random, but that there is, in each section, only one link to the same game or to the same platform, in order to avoid repetition.

But, at least for games in XYZZY Awards pages, I think there always should be links to them: the repetition isn't too terrible, and it looks better, in my opinion.

For links to platforms, it's not so simple. In author pages, if there's a list of 20 Z-code games and no other games, it does look a bit... useless, and not very pretty, if there are 20 links to the Z-code page. But in pages with long lists of games and different platforms, I don't know what's the best formatting. --Eriorg 09:56, 6 March 2007 (EST)

I agree that I've been inconsistent with the XYZZY Awards pages and we should come up with some standard for them that we can adhere to. My current feeling is, for the XYZZY Awards [YEAR] pages: (1) link all the game titles, and link all the author names no matter how often they appear on the page, (2) only link the first reference to a platform within a section, and leave subsequent mentions of the same platform unlinked. That last means that Z-code would only get linked to at most twice, once in the 'winners' section, and once in the 'winners and finalists' section. I'm also thinking (3) that we should now avoid boldface for winning titles in the 'winners and finalists' section.

Also, on the pages per award, e.g. Best Puzzles, (4) I'm okay with the current practice of repeating the prize phrase everywhere, since we can just easily cut 'n' paste the appropriate lines or paragraphs from the year pages without needing to edit further. However, I can be persuaded that the repetition is unappealing, and remove the prize phrase from the bodies of those lists on those pages.

I would like to know what other people think before deciding on any of this though, and I plan to make a style guide for the XYZZY Awards pages based on the current discussion here. If there's no more feedback in the next week, I'll just go with my current position on it. -- David Welbourn 19:35, 7 March 2007 (EST)
