The Slamdance Guerilla Gamemaker Competition was a competition for many types of electronic games with a focus on game design. Rule 5 specifically welcomed interactive fiction formats. The competition was not held after 2007 due to a controversy over a juried game being pulled from the festival, which led many finalists (including Nick Montfort's IF entry Book and Volume) to withdraw in protest.

The submission deadline for the 2006 Slamdance Guerrilla Gamemaker Competition was October 31, 2005. Winners were announced in January 2006.
