How it begins
You breathe, and the vessel breathes with you. The pod attempts to bind with you as you shift, restless, weak with hunger and exhaustion.
Too long now, far too long since Xil left. She should have returned three days ago, and the days here are long; long and dark and...cold, that most novel and unwelcome of sensations. You try to focus, to find her pattern, but any trace of her is blotted out by the ache and Tal's keening. She needs to be fed, and soon you will be forced to leave the vessel.
You need to search for Xil, but you need to comfort Tal. You are too tired to know which need is greater.
