Template:Guidance on separate game pages
This template is used on Form:Game (in two places) and IFWiki:Game pages with multiple ports or translations.
| Scenario | Separate wiki page? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Same game by the same author in the same authoring system, released on multiple computer systems | No | Use the same wiki page, adding multiple releases within the form. |
| Competition and post-competition releases of the same game (same author, same authoring system) | No | Use the same wiki page, adding multiple releases within the form. |
| Introduction version and complete version of the same IntroComp game (same author, same authoring system) | No | Use the same wiki page, adding multiple releases within the form. In the "Game publication date" field, enter the date when the complete version was first published. (Note: "Game publication date" is at the bottom of the Versions section of the form, separate from the publication dates for individual releases.) |
| Port to a different authoring system | Yes*
(*Possible exception: If the author did the porting, and the authoring systems were closely related, e.g. Inform 6 and Inform 7, please discuss.) |
Create a separate wiki page. Usually, the page name of a port should add the authoring system and the word "port" in parentheses, for example, "Cloak of Darkness (Inform 6 port)". But for ports of the game Adventure, the page name should be the game title followed by the port's Adventure Family Tree abbreviation in parentheses, for example, "Adventure: The Interactive Original (NELS0350)". Within the form, use the cross-reference "Port of". |
| Translation by anybody | Yes |
Create a separate wiki page, for example, "Le butin du Capitaine Verdeterre". If both the original game and the translated game have the same title, disambiguation text can be added to the page name of the translation, for example, "War Mage (English translation)". For translations of the game Adventure, the page name should be the game title followed by the relevant Adventure Family Tree abbreviation in parentheses, for example, "Aventura: La Original Interactiva (DIAZ0350)". Within the form, use the cross-reference "Translation of". |
| New game of same name that's not trying to give the same experience as the original | Yes |
Create a separate wiki page. See page name guidance for disambiguation advice. Within the form, use the appropriate cross-reference (for example, "Spoof of"). |
Some older wiki pages have ports and translations listed as releases on the same wiki page. Ideally these will be separated out into their own pages--please help!
