Overview
In 2019, Chris Ainsley, the author of Adventuron, hosted a game jam to promote Adventuron and encourage new authors to try the system. In order to help new authors, he provided the framework of a simple game called The Cave of Magic and required authors to build on that framework.
The jam was very popular and resulted in 11 new games, mostly from new authors. As a consequence, the concept continued and further jams were held every six months or so, until they were replaced by the Text Adventure Literacy Jam.
The Adventuron game jams were called "jams" because they were hosted using the itch.io jam framework. However, they were actually competitions that were judged either by the general public or by a panel of experts. All the competitons offered a range of prizes.
