Overview

The Adventuron CaveJam was the first Adventuron game jam to create a text adventure that included graphics. Although it was called a jam, it was actually a competition judged by popular vote. Prizes were awarded to the winning entries.

The jam involved taking the source code of a bare-bones text adventure called The Cave of Magic and adapting this into a bigger and better game. The source code for The Cave of Magic was provided on the jam's home page.

The graphics in The Cave of Magic were not to be used and new graphics had to be added for all locations. Bad graphics were welcome, but authors were encouraged to use the pixel-art style of graphics that was commonly used on 8-bit and 16-bit computers.

Full rules were on the jam's home page. Most importantly, the game had to retain the forest, outside the cave, the lake and the treasure room, but the location descriptions could be altered.
