How it begins

PROLOGUE I: The year is 1400 A.D. You are a boy called Pallidyr Gaelhawk living in in a small farming village just outside of Wales with your father, mother, and sister Aurielle. Your mother asks you to deliver a food basket to your father in the fields. Soon after, the sound of horses alerts you to the sight of armed men marching into the village. Their markings show they are part of Glenowner's army, a prince of Wales revolting against King Henry IV. This group is led by a man called "Kasil". From the concealment of bushes, you watch in helpless horror as the villagers are rounded up and slaughtered. The sight of Aurielle's body, stripped and with her throat cut, prompts you to swear vengeance by your hand, and to join King Henry's army.

PROLOGUE II: Seven years later, you have learned to use a sword (SLASH AT target, THRUST AT target, and PARRY). In a secret lair beneath Aberystwyth Castle, you finally find Kasil looking like the devil himself in the glow of a lava pit. He meets your sword with his own, and you fall onto a ledge within the pit. There you swear an oath that his life remains until either he dies by your sword or you die by his. "Foolish youth... let the hunt begin." He leaves his "sacred chamber", and you... you fall into the lava...

PART ONE - ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA - FEBRUARY 2002: You are a draftsman for the civil engineering firm of Vine, Barris and Hall, Inc. and sitting at your computer. The front door leads north onto a balcony.
