How it begins

WARNING: Leadlight Gamma contains violence and gore.

The game opens with a warning about violent and disturbing content, and indicates that Leadlight is recommended for mature gamers only.

A front-end menu lets players start a new game, manage saved games, visit the artwork gallery or music player, or read the credits.

The player's character in Leadlight is Belinda Nettle, a 15-year-old boarding student at Linville Girls High School in the Blue Mountains, Australia. The introduction describes Belinda's background and her school life.

When the game begins, Belinda awakens in the student library at night. Another student, Charlotte, is sitting across the desk from Belinda, and Belinda realises that Charlotte is dead. Belinda arms herself against attackers and begins to explore the school and its grounds to try to discover what is happening at Linville.
