How it begins
It's not explained who you are (at least at first), but you are Holden Caulfield, a moody male teenage student, carrying nothing. You are sitting on Thomsen Hill overlooking the stadium at your school, Pencey Prep, where a sporting event is taking place. You also see a cannon here. You have no obvious goals.
Notable features
- Adaptation of The Catcher in the Rye, a novel by J. D. Salinger. Unfortunately, the game is nearly incomprehensible if you're unfamiliar with the original story.
- Extremely sparse implementation. Many rooms and objects lack description. Entire conversations with NPCs can occur with NPCs that themselves aren't implemented as game objects. Few to no hints are given to the player to suggest what actions will be supported, or what goals should be pursued.
- Much of the text is punctuated with numbers enclosed in brackets. No explanation for these numbers is given.
- Certain actions earn points; the total score is 14. Several point earning actions are optional.
- Undesirable features include unmentioned exits, an infinite point bug, and read author's mind.
