An experimental work that "deals with problems of non-linearity in text adventures, and ways the player perceives them. It actually consists of two pieces, each of them representing one of the two extremes of interactivity."
How it begins
Note: There are two story files in this work.
In black.gam, you might be anyone in Grankin's Black Room. It is dark, and you cannot do anything.
In white.gam, you are the author of the work and in a wonderful place. Your imagination is boundless, and you can do anything.
Notable features
- Not a game. The player-character, such as he or she exists, has no goals to persue or puzzles to solve. The work has no ending.
- The work's title and author are not named in the work itself, although the white version claims to be titled The Absolutely Interactive Game.
- The black version subverts the standard out-of-game commands. The save, restart, restore, and quit commands do not work as they normally do. The player can only quit the work via the TADS interpreter controls.
Trivia and Comments
- Suprematism is a style of art based on basic geometric shapes like squares, circles, and triangles. The style was founded by the Russian painter Kasimir S. Malevich in 1913.
- Although the two versions are functionally very similar, some players may experience the agency or interaction of the two versions somewhat differently.
