Clash of the Type-Ins

From IFWiki

Clash of the Type-Ins is a podcast hosted by Ryan Veeder and Jenni Polodna. Works of interactive fiction (generally parser-based) are played out loud, with their author narrating game responses to shouted commands and commentary/excuses for same, with frequent digressions and occasional recriminations.

It was mainly active from 2014 to 2018, with occasional brief revivals thereafter.

(In 2012, Ryan posted about Playfic to the IntFiction forum with the thread subject "Clash of the Type-ins". Later he posted "Well now this seems like a waste of a really good thread title.")

Kickstarter

In August 2015, the podcast ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for continued hosting costs. It entailed the following rewards:

  • Stickers (of the emblem shown here)
  • Badges
  • T-shirts, emblazoned with Inform 7's mysterious "6/12N"
  • Membership cards for the 'extremely unofficial Clash of the Type-Ins Fan Club' (which contained, collectively, a puzzle)
  • Audio files of deleted scenes
  • Custom recorded audio samples by Ryan or Jenni
  • The opportunity for backer-chosen commands to be entered at a random time into a random game which was unlikely to respond appropriately
